The Strépy-Thieu funicular lift

 

 

 

                   

 

 

 

Turning Belgian's waterways into a network for 1,350 t vessels required the creation of a new stretch for the “Canal du Centre” and the construction of a boat lift : the Strépy-Thieu funicular lift.

This exceptional structure compensates for a difference in level of 73.15 metres and so is on its own equivalent to the four hydraulic lifts, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and the two locks of the famous historic “Canal du Centre”.

An impressive engine room, a superb panorama of the whole site and the surrounding area. In addition, the “Land of Geniuses” audiovisual experience allows you to take in the key moments of Belgian inventiveness in domains as varied as art, music, painting, sport and cartoon strips, etc., in the company of illustrious Belgians.

Visiting the funicular lift also means having the chance to go throught the lift by boat.
